Introduction

Management of change in the organisations or conglomerates is necessary for developing effective strategic planning to lead the organisation towards achieving its goals and objective in a unique manger through resolving the internal issues and resistance to change (Carnall, 2018). As a manger of Orchard View Nursing Home, it is my duty to develop strategic change for successful change management so that aim of serving the elder people mainly aged between 40 to 90 years can be maximised well. The care home Orchard View is suffering through a serious issue of filing to serve the clients for the incident such as patient abuse, lack of health and safety concern and other issue like poor quality of the health and social care service and lack of proficiency of the staff members. It is necessary to develop the quality standard of the Orchard View Nursing Home through managing changes and identifying the key factors that would lead the change towards success.

In order to manage changes at the nursing homes, it is necessary to identify the key factors that drive changes and the key factors are such as shared vision, maximisation of stakeholder’s values, enabling behaviour, organisational structure, involvement with the stakeholders, leadership and management and the skills and abilities of the staff (Cameron and Green, 2015; Kash et al., 2014). In the Orchard View Nursing Home, it is difficult for the nursing home to deliver high quality health and social care service due to lack of efficiency of the staff members and lack of resources and capabilities for which the issue of patient abuse and lack of safety concern has raised in the nursing home. It is hereby effective for the business to lead the change management procedure through developing effective strategic planning so that the quality standard of the health and social care service can be maintained. The factor leadership and management are effective to lead the changes as the leaders and managers try to manage the employees and the staff members at the Orchard View Nursing Home for leading the changes to achieve future success by enhancing quality of the health and social care service. Another factor is skills and organisational structure which leads the leaders towards achieving success. In addition to these, the stakeholder’s involvement at the Orchard View Nursing Home and the shared vision of the nursing home are also effective to lead the changes for achieving success. Through the key factors, it is possible to lead the changes at the Orchard View Nursing Home and enhance the performnace of the care home and imporve quality of the health and social care service.

The key factors for leading the changes are mentioned above which contributes in the Orchard View Nursing Home to achieve the success and meet the strategic goal of the nursing home through change management, but there are some challenges which worsen the situation of developing the key factors for managing change. lack of communication and poor cooperation at the workplace are the main challenge for which it is difficult for the Orchard View Nursing Home to maintain their quality standard of the health and social care service. Apart from that, resistance to change at the workplace of the Orchard View Nursing Home due to lack of cooperation and differences in the opinion of the staff members worsen the situation and environment of the Orchard View Nursing Home for which the change management process cannot be implemented well at the organisation. Moreover, another challenge is lack of involvement of the stakeholders including the employees, staff members at the Orchard View Nursing Home, patients admitted at the Orchard View Care Home, government, local charity home at the locality of the Orchard View Nursing Home, social workers, doctors, and other health and social care professionals due to lack of empowerment of the stakeholders in the decision making practice of the health and social acre service and poor engagement with all the stakeholders of the Orchard View Nursing Home. Another challenge is lack of transparency and management at the Orchard View Nursing Home for which it is difficult for the care home to manage the quality as well as maintain safety and security at the workplace. According to Kotter’s theory of change management, there are 8 steps of managing change at the workplace which includes creating the sense of urgency, building coalition, forming strategic vision, getting everyone on board, removing barriers and reducing friction, generating short term wins, sustaining acceleration and setting changes (Hayes, 2018). Through these steps it is possible to manage internal conflicts at the workplace and convince the staff members to lead the changes successfully. In this regard, resistance to chance can be maintained through proper communication and improving understanding where the staff members are also empowered at the decision-making behaviour and involve them in the change management so that they understand the needs for change (Kuipers et al., 2014). On the other hand, as per the Lewin’s model for change management principle, there are three steps which are unfreeze, change and refreeze where in the unfreeze stage, it is necessary to determine the needs to change, ensure strong support and manage the staff members strategically to lead them towards achieving success (Cummings, Bridgman and Brown, 2016). The second step is change where communicating the vision, improving involvement with the staff members and employees and empowering the staff are effective for the organisation to lead the changes. The third step is refreezing where proper training and development and developing organisational culture re effective to maintain the change at the workplace and enhance organisational performnace as a whole (Doppelt, 2017).

The above-mentioned strategic planning is planned with proper involvement of all the stakeholders without which it is difficult for the organisation Orchard View Nursing Home to lead the changes at the workplace for improving the quality of the health and social care service delivered by the care home. In this regard, the leaders and mangers try to develop the strategic planning of implementing information technology as well as utilising organisational resources and skill of the staff members to improve the quality of the service that they provide to the patients. Communicating the goals and convincing the staff members that the changes are good for all the stakeholders are helpful to develop the plan and implement it successfully. moreover, empowering the patients in the decision-making practice is effective for planning the changes and lead the organisation towards achieving success.

Computerised system for managing patient’s record is helpful as well as implementing the CCTV cameras and monitoring the performnace of the employees through feedback gathering are also beneficial to evaluate the changes at the Orchard View Nursing Home. planning of the organisational structure and monitoring the safety concerns are also effective for change management at the Orchard View Nursing Home. It is also important to monitor the performnace of the workplace through group discussion, gathering feedback and communication where the staff members can share their experience and develop an effective team for managing change. empowering all the stakeholders is also effective in this regard, is effective to interact with all the stakeholders and lead the change strategically.

It can be concluded that, the change management practice is beneficial for the Orchard View Nursing Home to mitigate the issue of poor-quality standard of the health and social care services as well as lack of maintaining safety and security of the patients at the workplace. Through change management, the leaders and managers try to implement the changes through sharing the vision of the Orchard View Nursing Home and improving involvement with all the stakeholder by empowering them in the decision-making practice. Through sharing vision, enhancing communication and interaction, improving cooperation, proper empowerment of the patients and other staff members and managing safety and security are beneficial for the Orchard View Nursing Home to lead the changes and improve the quality of health and social care services delivered by the care home to the patients according to the needs and safety concern of the individuals.
